Ebola Health Workers Victim Family Trust Fund Disbursed to Beneficiaries

The Ebola Health Workers Victim Family Trust Fund was established by the NRA in September 2014 to honor the work of all health workers who risked and lost their lives whilst fighting against the Ebola outbreak in the country, and to provide financial support/compensate the immediate families of health workers that lost their lives in line-of-duty. The seed money for the Trust Fund was raised from staff contributions and that of the Board.

Speaking at the event which was held at the Family Kingdom, the Commissioner-General of the NRA stated that her institution was targeting the immediate families of frontline health workers who died from Ebola because they were a source of economic stability in their families.

“They are our fallen heroes and heroines. They died while executing their duties, protecting us from a deadly virus. As a nation, we must in turn pay tribute to their lives and heroism and most importantly, look after their families and help them cope with their loss and move forward with their lives,” Madam Haja Kallah-Kamara stated.

She said the Trust is being governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of representatives of the ministries of Health and Social Welfare, Attitudinal and Behavioural Change Secretariat, and the NRA Board. Madam Haja Kallah-Kamara said this was the first time the Trust was making disbursements, adding that the NRA will endeavour to continue to donate to the Trust Fund so that periodic payments will be made to beneficiaries.
