The National Revenue Authority (NRA) and the Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MOICE) held a strategic meeting to discuss their collaboration under a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and NRA’s role in the National Civic Festival. The engagement aimed to align both institutions on key objectives and ensure effective participation throughout the event.
During the meeting, Timothy Sam, Partnership Lead at MOICE, presented the concept note for the National Civic Day Series, emphasizing its mission to decentralize government engagement and bring governance closer to the people. He highlighted that the event would provide a platform for live town hall dialogues, local partnerships, and improved monitoring, evaluation, and accountability mechanisms. He further announced that the first phase of the event is set to begin on 24th March 2025, with Kambia as the initial outreach district.
The Executive Assistant to the Commissioner General, Aminata Y. Mansaray, raised key concerns regarding NRA’s role in the event’s success and how the MOU would structure collaboration between NRA and MOICE. Additionally, Public Affairs and Tax Education Manager, Janet J. Khan, inquired about the integration of NRA into the National Civic Day Series and the specific contributions expected from the Authority.
In response, Timothy Sam reassured the NRA team that preparations, including billboards, media partnerships, and stakeholder engagements were well underway and that NRA’s involvement would be clearly outlined in the MOU. He also disclosed that MOICE is securing grant funding from partner institutions to support a youth training program in content creation, with potential slots available for NRA representatives.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of both institutions to enhancing civic engagement, promoting taxpayer education, and making government more accessible to the public.
