At the weekly press conference hosted by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Mrs. Jeneba Kpaka Bangura, provided updates on the Authority’s efforts to strengthen revenue collection and enhance digital transformation. Addressing the press alongside Financial Secretary Matthew Dingie and the representative from the Parliamentary Oversight Committee, she outlined key reforms aimed at improving tax compliance, efficiency, and overall revenue performance.
She highlighted 21 strategic measures designed to optimize revenue collection, particularly through collaboration with external partners at the ports. She reported that the NRA achieved 99 percent of its 2024 revenue target, reflecting the impact key reforms instituted by the authority. She further mentioned that revenue collection has increased by 100 percent since 2022, demonstrating the Authority’s commitment to financial discipline and sustainable growth. Mrs. Kpaka-Bangura reaffirmed the goal to surpass 2024 revenue targets, emphasizing the need for public cooperation and compliance.
The Commissioner General underscored the civic responsibility of taxpayers in supporting national revenue mobilization. She urged businesses and individuals to request and issue GST receipts, reinforcing transparency and accountability. Addressing public concerns, she clarified that no new taxes have been introduced, and that the NRA remains focused on improving efficiency and compliance.
She also highlighted the NRA’s digital transformation, which according to her has eliminated outdated manual processes, enhancing efficiency and service delivery. She noted ongoing collaboration with MDAs to ensure seamless integration of reforms. Encouraging the public to embrace digitalization, she emphasized that a cashless economy is the future of revenue administration.
In closing, the Commissioner General reaffirmed the NRA’s commitment to a fair, transparent, and modern tax system calling for national support in achieving revenue targets for a sustainable economic growth.
