In a significant move to enhance tax compliance and streamline transactions, the National Revenue Authority (NRA) has begun installing Electronic Cash Registers (ECRS) with more features at various businesses registered for GST. The first phase of the installation process targeted businesses in the construction sector and electronics and electrical. This initiative, led by Commissioner General Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, along with the Commissioner of the Domestic Tax Department James B. Tengebeh and Deputy Commissioner Edwin E. Conteh, aims to modernize the retail landscape and ensure accurate sales reporting while minimizing tax evasion.
Prior to the installation, business owners and their staff received training on the new system, which boasts enhanced tracking capabilities and real-time data reporting. By integrating these advanced ECRs, the NRA seeks to foster a culture of transparency and accountability among retailers.
"This is a pivotal step towards digitizing our economy and ensuring that all businesses contribute their fair share to national revenue," stated Mrs. Bangura. She emphasized that this development is intended to ease the burden of business transactions while promoting transparency and accountability.
Business owners have welcomed this initiative. Mr. Zakharia Khoury of Khoury Building Materials praised the reform, noting that transactions have become much more seamless with the new device. Similarly, Mr. Aman Rupani of Raju’s Electrical expressed gratitude to the Commissioner General and her team for their efforts in automating revenue reforms, affirming his business's commitment to compliance.
