The National Revenue Authority- Sierra Leone under the leadership of its Commissioner General Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura is set to host the 7th High-Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD) and the 21st General Assembly (GA) of the West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) with the theme Financing Development Through Effective Tax Systems. The event will focus on advancing an effective tax system, scheduled to take place on 15th - 19th September 2025.
Senior government officials, tax experts, and international partners will converge to discuss strategies in improving tax administration, enhancing compliance, and strengthening revenue mobilization. This dialogue seeks to represent a significant step towards modernizing the country’s tax framework and aligning it with global best practices.
In her reaction to the momentum of the event, Mrs. Bangura highlighted that the dialogue will provide a platform for sharing knowledge on innovative tax policies, digitalization of tax services, and measures to combat tax evasion and avoidance.
“Participants will also explore ways to foster greater transparency and cooperation between tax authorities, the private sector, and civil society.” She added. The NRA C.G. emphasized that such collaboration is critical for building public trust and ensuring a fair and efficient tax system that supports sustainable economic growth not only in Sierra Leone but across the ECOWAS region.
It is worth noting that by hosting this high-profile event, the NRA seeks to reinforce its commitment to fiscal reform and international cooperation. It is expected that the dialogue will generate actionable recommendations to strengthen the country’s tax administration capacity and improve revenue collection. This initiative is poised to contribute significantly to the government’s broader agenda of enhancing public service delivery and economic development through a robust and effective tax system.
