The Excise Unit of the Domestic Tax Department at the National Revenue Authority (NRA), in collaboration with SICPA, on Thursday, 27 August 2026, conducted a one-day training and sensitization session for clearing and forwarding agencies on the importance, use, and benefits of excise tax stamps. The session was held at Dove’s Nest, Murray Town, Freetown.
Speaking at the session, Excise Unit Manager Mustapha Fofanah, highlighted the tax stamp as an important revenue assurance and compliance tool. He explained that it helps the NRA monitor excisable products; reduce tax evasion, smuggling, and counterfeiting; and improve product traceability.
He encouraged Clearing and Forwarding Agencies to understand their responsibilities and comply with established procedures when handling excisable goods.
Additionally, SICPA Service Centre Technician Alhaji Amadu Kondeh, delivered a technical presentation on the proper handling, application, and verification of Excise Tax Stamps, addressing operational challenges that stakeholders may encounter.
The training featured an interactive question and answer session, allowing participants to seek clarification on the importance of tax stamps, clearance procedures, verification, and compliance requirements.
The engagement forms part of the NRA’s continued efforts to strengthen stakeholder education; improve tax compliance; combat illicit trade; and enhance domestic revenue mobilization.
