"In a moment of redemption, St. Mary’s Supermarket proudly welcomed back its patrons today after a brief closure mandated by the National Revenue Authority (NRA) last Friday. The closure, prompted by the market's failure to meet tax obligations, particularly the issuance of GST receipts and hindering tax administration, left customers and employees alike in a state of uncertainty.
Commissioner General of the NRA, Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, shed light on the sealing off action, emphasizing the necessity of compliance with tax regulations. She revealed that the closure was a result of failing to fulfill tax obligations, but following constructive negotiations and a comprehensive assessment of tax liabilities, the management swiftly devised a payment plan to rectify the situation.
Consequently, the NRA has lifted the seal, allowing the supermarket to resume operations.
Tony Shalop, Head of the supermarket's management, expressed gratitude for the swift resolution and extended assurance to customers regarding the supermarket's commitment to full compliance with all tax regulations. He also urged other business owners to heed the lesson learned from their experience, emphasizing the importance of adhering to tax obligations.
The reopening of St. Mary’s Supermarket stands as a testament to the efficacy of cooperation between businesses and regulatory authorities in upholding fiscal responsibility while ensuring the uninterrupted flow of commerce within the community."
