The Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, recently received a courtesy visit from the newly elected executive of the Sierra Leone Reporters Union (SLRU). This meeting reflects the union’s ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration and partnership with public institutions. The visit marks a step toward fostering closer ties between the media and the NRA to support national development goals.
During the meeting, SLRU President Yeanor Kabia expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage with the NRA’s leadership and emphasized the union’s commitment to working together to enhance tax compliance and revenue collection. She highlighted that the SLRU represents over 600 registered reporters across Sierra Leone and announced plans to hold the union’s inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) in November after 21 years, during which a new constitution will be adopted.
In response, Mrs. Bangura welcomed the proposed collaboration, affirming the NRA’s dedication to partnering with the SLRU to improve revenue mobilization efficiently. She stressed the vital role reporters play in disseminating information about tax reforms and revenue updates.
Additionally, Sahr A.K. Lamin, Manager at the NRA’s Public Affairs and Tax Education Unit, acknowledged the importance of transparent communication and noted the development of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for information sharing between the NRA and media practitioners, a recommendation arising from a recent meeting with media representatives.
