The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has launched a series of engagements with female traders in the Central Business District (CBD) of Freetown as part of preparations to mark International Women’s Day on March 8, 2026 highlighting women’s vital role in taxation and economic growth.
This initiative began with a special meeting along Malama Thomas Street which focused on celebrating and supporting women in business, providing a platform for traders to share the challenges they face in sustaining their livelihoods.
During the event, the Commissioner General Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura highlighted the theme “Give to Gain,” stressing that empowering women through inclusive taxation and business support is essential for strengthening families, communities, and driving national development. ”Women’s participation in taxation and commerce is a cornerstone of economic growth.” Said Mrs. Bangura. She further noted that by engaging female traders, the NRA aims to enhance tax compliance and financial inclusion, ensuring that women’s businesses are supported and their economic impact maximized.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to partnership and recognition of the critical economic contributions made by women.
