The Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, is spearheading global efforts to advance gender-responsive taxation, presenting a strategic workplan at the 32nd Session of the United Nations Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters.
Speaking in her role as Co-Coordinator of the Subcommittee on Tax and Gender, Mrs. Bangura emphasized that tax systems are not gender neutral and must be deliberately shaped to address inequalities, particularly within the informal economy and in developing countries.
The proposed workplan sets out a clear path toward delivering practical, high-impact guidance on tax policy, administration, data, and international taxation, with outputs designed to be accessible, actionable, and responsive to country needs through 2028.
Positioning the initiative as both timely and essential, Mrs. Bangura reaffirmed the Subcommittee’s commitment to supporting more inclusive and equitable tax systems globally, while inviting the Committee’s guidance and approval to move the work forward.
